What to Expect when you Arrive

- Clinical assessment and triage: A clinician will assess your symptoms and vital signs and prioritise care based on urgency, ensuring the most urgent cases are seen first.
- Tests, treatment and next steps: Where needed, we arrange on-site tests such as bloodwork and imaging (X-ray/CT/ultrasound), provide treatment, and explain the next steps clearly – whether that is discharge with advice, follow-up, or specialist input.
When Should I Come to Immediate Care?
You should visit the Immediate Care Department for urgent or non-life-threatening symptoms such as:
- Suspected fractures (broken bones), sprains, or dislocations, especially if you cannot bear weight
- Injuries after a fall with pain, swelling, bruising, or reduced movement
- Cuts or wounds that may require stitches
- Minor burns or scalds
- Head injury where the person is alert, but symptoms persist
- Persistent vomiting or diarrhea (risk of dehydration)
- High fever or flu-like illness that is not improving (especially in children)
- Earache, sore throat, or sinus pain with significant discomfort
- Urinary symptoms (burning, frequency), or suspected UTI with fever

- Asthma or wheezing that is uncomfortable but you can still speak in full sentences
- Allergic reactions with rash or itching (without facial swelling or breathing difficulty)
- Worsening pain from a known condition when you need same-day assessment
If you suspect a life-threatening emergency, call 112 or go to the Emergency Department immediately – especially for chest pain, severe breathing difficulty, stroke symptoms, severe trauma, uncontrolled bleeding, severe allergic reaction, sudden severe abdominal pain, or reduced consciousness.
